This year the first 3D printed ice construction will be realised in Harbin, at the HIT (Harbin University of Technology). The gridshell is built in the week of 15 - 21 December 2018, and is done with a manual 3D printing process

Students have to design a mega large polyhydric ice structure. The structure will be made by freezing a cable structure at the inside of an inflatable. After the cable structure can stand on it selve the inflatbable support structure at the outside can be removed en reused for new structures.

A pedestrian bridge in wood based on Leonardo’s design has been built in Norway, as well as some small ice bridges. In the winter of 2016 a scale model of this bridge with a span of 50 meters will be created in ice in Finland. It will be the biggest single-span structure in ice ever realized.
